54 MCP tools, generated from OpenAPI

54 MCP tools, generated from OpenAPI

Every REST endpoint we ship becomes an MCP tool automatically. Here is how we generate 54 tools from our OpenAPI spec and keep them in lockstep with the API.

The wrapper problem

Hand-writing MCP wrappers for every endpoint is a recipe for drift. Rename a field in the API and five editor integrations break. We wanted one source of truth: the OpenAPI spec served at /api/v1/openapi.json.

Generation pipeline

  • FastMCP reads the OpenAPI spec at build time.
  • Each operation becomes a tool with typed arguments from the spec's schemas.
  • We annotate scope requirements from the x-required-scopes extension.
  • Five hand-curated workflows combine multiple tools for common tasks.

Result

When we add a new REST endpoint, the MCP tool appears in the next deploy without anyone writing a wrapper. The same validation, the same auth, the same audit logging applies whether the caller is curl, a dashboard, or Claude.
