Zero-trust architectures usually start with identity and endpoints. That's backwards. Every device on your network already reports every destination to DNS — making the resolver the cheapest, most universal enforcement point you own.
The resolver sees everything
Before a laptop, server, printer, or IoT sensor connects to anything, it resolves a name. Malware beacons, phishing pages, and command-and-control servers all appear first as DNS queries. Blocking at the resolver stops the connection before any TCP handshake happens.
Why it's cheaper than EDR or SWG
- No agent: point the device at a DoH/DoT resolver and policy applies instantly.
- No traffic steering: you don't need to proxy every byte through a cloud SWG.
- Universal coverage: works for unmanaged devices, guest networks, and IoT that can't run endpoint software.
What good DNS filtering actually blocks
The best DNS security layers stop phishing infrastructure within minutes of registration, identify algorithmic domains before they're on any threat feed, and catch lookalike domains targeting your brand specifically. That's the layer we are building at olladns.
